Cooking French Toast-inspired Toasts

I make excellent toasts! Have you seen my simple grilled cheese post? You should, it's classic. This toast recipe is my not so french toast toasts. It's suppose to mimic pancakes since I have no clue how to make them taste good.

Cooking French Toast-inspired Toasts

This breakfast idea came out of my desperation to cook pancakes. I find it very challenging to make pancakes soft, tasty, creamy - everything that a pancake should be. My intention with this recipe was to make pancake-like breads. In a way, it is french toast-inspired since it involves dipping the breads in a mixture. However, I forewent the use of eggs since the hubby is not a fan of eggs (and french toasts). He finds french toasts too oil - nothing more. And so, I came up with soft toasts which may be bathed in maple or pancake syrup, as if they were real pancakes.

Here is how I did it.

Ingredients in making these toasts:
  • Breads
  • Evaporated cream milk
  • Cinnamon powder (optional but preferred)
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
Directions in making the toasts:

  1. Dip both sides of the bread in milk. Do them one by one.
  2. Sprinkle cinnamon powder over the bread after dipping. This gives an innate sweet rusty flavor to the breads.
  3. Fry both sides of the bread in olive oil. Make sure the heat is low to toast the breads evenly.
  4. Pile the breads up in a plate.
  5. Pour over maple syrup when ready to serve.
  6. Place fruits or berries on the side.
This breakfast recipe is very easy to make. I'm sure kids with love them, too; because of the sweet flavors that envelope this entire meal. It is also less in calories compare to your traditional french toasts because we didn't use any eggs. Cool, huh?
