Cooking Pasta Like a Pro

Cooking pasta is not as elementary as boiling them and draining them. There’s a little arts and science in cooking pasta, the right way. You may want to read this post to know this simple home cooking technique.

My husband and I read an article online on cooking pasta. We tried cooking pasta with those tips and noticed noticeable difference on our pasta’s taste. This way of cooking pasta has something to do with not fully cooking the pasta in pasta water; but rather finish cooking them with the pasta sauce so that the pasta takes some of the flavor of the sauce into its very grain. In fact, that’s what we did in the Cooking Pasta Sauce post, if you would remember? How did that go, by the way?

The other day, I saw this link on how Chef Fabio Viviani of Top Chef Season 5 teaches his online viewers about cooking pasta and making pasta at home. Once more, this way of cooking pasta is mentioned in the clip. Top chefs must really be doing this when they cook pasta for real!

I enjoyed the clip since I enjoy eating pasta. More importantly, I want to share with you how cooking pasta should be done. In that video I shared with you, Fabio notes not to follow the cooking instructions in the pasta label. When the pasta label says cook for 15 minutes, better cook the pasta for 10 minutes and finish them on the pan with the pasta sauce.

With regards to the salt that I put in my pasta water, I mix a generous 2-3 tbspn depending on the amount of pasta I’m cooking. It’s suppose to be the right way to cook pasta as well as dry pasta doesn’t have a taste of their own, as Chef Fabio narrates in his video.

Cooking pasta the right way makes a difference to the entire dish. Some put all the efforts in cooking the pasta sauce when in fact that is only half the story. The pasta is just as important as its sauce.

The next time you’re cooking pasta, try the right way of cooking pasta and see how it goes.
